McQuay International lays off dozens of workers

One of Augusta County's largest employers is sending dozens of workers home. McQuay International makes commercial air conditioners at its plant in Verona. Wednesday, the company informed employees it would lay off 48 hourly workers on Monday. That number is about 10 percent of the plant's workforce. FARIBAULT HAS TAKEN A 40 PERCENT CUT IN EMPLOYEES SINCE JANUARY AROUND 185 HAVE BEEN LAID OFF. ON TUES. OWATONNA EMPLOYEES WERE TOLD 15 EMPLOYEES AS OF TODAY ARE LAYED OFF. THE COMPANY ISN'T TELLING TO MUCH INFORMATION BECAUSE GOD FORBID THEY DON'T WANT TO TELL US TO MUCH INFORMATION. THE MANAGEMENT IN OWT DON'T KNOW HOW TO MANAGE. THE WAY IT IS GOING WILL ALL BE OUT OF A JOB IN FBO AND MOST IN OWT. THEY ARE SAYING IT IS BECAUSE OF THE ECONOMY. IT'S BECAUSE OF SALES AND POOR MANAGEMENT. AND THEY SAY THAT MCQUAY IS WORLD CLASS. THEY TREAT THERE EMPLOYEES LIKE CRAP.

Mcquay OWT and Mcquay OWT EAST have stated a furlough will start End of FEB. 2010 for up to 6 weeks for 50 employees Current working conditions are 5 hr work days for the next two weeks. A furlough is more like a temporary layoff, which may be due to economic conditions at the specific employer or in the economy as a whole.

Because i spoke against he treatment of employees and told management that they do not have a clue about what we do. I was suspended in a kangaroo court of managent not my peers i really believe the mcquay company itself is history. they will not hire in staunton but are mandatoring people to work 58 hoursplus a week when our other companies are laying off where are thier loyality to all of us but continue to hire more managment
